THE new £25million superschool for pupils in North Ayrshire with Additional Support Needs looks set to be housed in Stevenston - right in between Auchenharvie Academy and the leisure centre.

And the the move which will see the current four schools in the area close will go to public consultation if it is agreed at next week's special Council meeting on Tuesday (August 30).

But a similar move was shelved just three years ago with public opinion going against Ardrossan Academy, Auchenharvie Academy, Haysholm and James McFarlane merging and being housed on the current site of Ardrossan Academy.

The initial move was announced back in February when the council's budget was put forward with Ardrossan Academy also in line to get a brand new facility.

Christina Larsen, Chair of Haysholm's Parent Council welcomed the move at the time saying that the school was 'not fit for purpose' and that pupils would benefit from a new facility.

The news comes just over two months since the council scrapped plans for a £6million disability day centre on the very same site as they hope the new school will be built.
