THE first Sunday in September is fast approaching and the training is starting to get that little bit easier as we battle to be ready to take on the Three Towns route for the North Ayrshire 10k.

Squats and broad jumps were the order of the day on Monday’s session at Hybrid 7 and the legs are getting stronger and stronger in the race to ensure a sub one hour time on Sunday, September 4.

This week I have been thinking about how quickly the race has came around but also about how breaking it down into smaller sections will help when it comes to making sure we cross the finish line.

10,000 metres sounds like a lot but if you cut that down into smaller chunks then it doesn’t seem as daunting.

And you have to take inspiration from the Olympic Games and especially Mo Farah when it comes to distance running.

I know that I will never get close to winning a competitive 10k race but if this training and the inspiration can help me and others get out, get fit and enjoy exercising, then it must be a good thing.

Next week will be the last paper to go to print before we have to run the race, if you haven’t taken the plunge yet, there is still time to sign up and get involved.
