A ROOFER who drove a works van without a licence or insurance has been fined at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court.

57-year-old Henry McConnell was stopped by traffic police on a routine check in Beith and he said that his name was Edward McIntyre and that he was the registered owner of the vehicle.

Checks were carried out by the police and the other man was wanted by police to be spoken to and at this time McConnell gave his real details.

Malloy, defending, said that Edward McIntyre is a co-worker and his brother-in-law and the vehicle he was in was a works van.

She said that her client only had a provisional licence and as Mr McIntyre was on holiday he foolishly took the decision to drive the van to another workmate.

McConnell, who lives in Glasgow, was given six penalty points and fined a total of £800 for driving without a licence, driving without insurance and attempting to pervert the course of justice.
