FUNDRAISING is always a challenge and the North Ayrshire Council Health and Social Care Money Matters team have selected a challenge to raise awareness of and much needed funds for the North Ayrshire Foodbank.

The team will be walking the Ayrshire Coastal Path which stretches for 92.5 miles from Glenapp in the South to Skelmorlie in the North.

The first phase, starting at Glenapp and is 22.5 miles, will be covered by the team on Sunday, September 4 arriving at Skelmorlie on Thursday the 8th. Craig Crosthwaite, Foodbank Coordinator, will be joining the walkers on Thursday to being with them as they do the last 22 miles to Skelmorlie.

The generosity of the team is not simply in their desire to assist the Foodbank raise funds but they have generously given of their time as all walkers are using their annual leave.

The core team of walkers are Lorraine White, Wendy Wilson and Amy Kerr who will be joined by a second team of walkers for the Irvine to Ardrossan leg of the walk, increasing the sponsorship pool. The logistics are tremendous and their support team includes drivers who will transport the walkers to the start point for each day's walk as well as those bring refreshments and then meeting them at Skelmorlie to cheer them on over the finishing line.

Anyone is free to join the crowd in Skelmorlie to give them the applaud they deserve.

You can help the team raise funds by visiting the donation page here.

The funds raised will go towards the next round of support to vulnerable children to ensure they get a nutritional meal during holiday periods when they no longer access free school meals.

“Make a meal of it” is operated each full week of the school holidays and can assist up to 60 children per day in a safe and supportive environment either in Ardrossan or Ardeer.

This programme is part of the national “Make Lunch” network and in partnership with North Ayrshire Council to ensure coverage for the whole of North Ayrshire through their parallel programme.

Every penny will help feed a local child – if you can donate, do so here.
