THERE will be further disruption on Saltcoats High Road after North Ayrshire Council confirmed that they have issued a failure notice on works carried out by Scottish Power.

Over the past few months roadworks and temporary traffic lights have caused headaches for local motorists and even once works were finished, they new road surface has led to complaints to North Ayrshire Council.

Now Scottish Power will be tasked with further work to ensure a smooth journey from Saltcoats to Ardrossan along one of the busiest roads in the area.

A spokesperson for North Ayrshire Council said: “These works on High Road Saltcoats are being undertaken by Scottish Power who are installing a new high voltage cable.

“We have, however, received a number of complaints about the quality of the re-instatement of the road.

“Following an inspection, we issued a failure notice to Scottish Power on August 11.

“A follow up to the failure notice was issued on August 31 and we are now awaiting a remedial works programme from Scottish Power.

“As the works are not being carried out by the council, we cannot comment on the cost of these remedial works.”

A ScottishPower spokesperson said: “Works are still ongoing on the High Road in Saltcoats with the majority of work completed.

“We are aware of North Ayrshire Council’s notice and will be liaising with them directly.”
