AN ARDROSSAN-based support group held a training day with the Scottish Mentoring Network.

Staff from Ayrshire Independent Living Network (AILN) and peer mentoring volunteers gathered at the Gailes in Irvine for the training on Wednesday, August 24.

Mary Ballantyne, vice-chairperson for AILN, said: “We know that change can be daunting at first and switching to self-directed support can seem like a big thing to do.

“Now thanks to the advice of our Focus Group, and our Peer Mentoring volunteers, we will be able to give people new to SDS someone to chat to who has already been through the process. Sarah from the Scottish Peer Mentoring Network has equipped us all with the training we need to do this safely and effectively.”

AILN is a user-led, not-for-profit company limited by guarantee with charitable status. They have been providing a high quality ‘one stop’ SDS information and advice service for people in Ayrshire for the last 13 years. The group is funded by the three Ayrshire councils and through the Scottish Government’s Support in the Right Direction initiative.
