POLICE Scotland have urged the public in Ayrshire to remain calm following social media clown fears.

Facebook and Twitter have been ablaze with concerned parents following reports that people were dressing up as clowns looking to harm people after the ‘craze’ hit the US.

One Facebook user in Ayr said: “These clowns are freaking me out.”

After increasing fears from parents across the country, Superintendent Linda Jones from the Ayrshire Police Division issued a statement this week.

She said: “Police are currently carrying out enquiries following a report of two teenagers being approached by someone dressed as a clown in Dean Park, Kilmarnock on Thursday , October 6 evening.

“I am aware of other unconfirmed reports on social media causing alarm.

“Action will be taken against anyone seeking to cause distress and potential alarm.

“Anyone with any concerns should contact their local police office.”
