FIREFIGHTERS from the local area battled at the weekend as a kitchen fire took hold in a caravan park.
Fire appliances from Kilwinning and Ardrossan stations attended reports of a static residential caravan on fire within the Sandylands site on Saturday evening.
There was a kitchen fire within the caravan which was extinguished by firefighters wearing breathing apparatus and using a high pressure hose reel jet.
The crews left the scene at 9.15pm with no injuries reported to members of the public.
Station Manager Derek Davidson said: “Fire Safety in caravans is just as critical as it is in a normal dwelling house. The risk of fire remains the same and this example shows that the current trend of kitchen fires carries across different type of properties.”
Mr Davidson added: “It is vitally important to have early warning in the event of fire therefore a working smoke alarm within the caravan is the first step in keeping you and your family safe.
“If you require a smoke detector and safety advice contact the Scottish Fire & Rescue Service to provide a Home Fire Safety Visit at which time we will provide and fit free smoke detectors.
“This can be arranged by Texting “FIRE” to 80800 , logging on to www.firescotland.gov.uk or by Freephone to 0800 0731 999.”
