AN ARDROSSAN carer has been struck off after she was found to be abusing service users at a home in Largs.

Maryanne Orr was removed from the Support Workers in a Care Home Service for Adults register by the Scottish Social Services Council earlier this month.

Now details outlined in their report have explained exactly why Orr was struck off.

They found that she assaulted two service users, one by pushing her face against a window, seizing hold of her, carrying her and pushing her into a room with her knee.

She assaulted the other by wrapping her hands in the bed sheets in an attempt to restrain her, jumping up and down and shouting at the woman upon discovering she had soiled herself.

It was found that she held the woman by the wrists in an attempt to restrain her, used inappropriate language towards her, namely “shut up, I’m sick of this” or words to that effect. It was also found that she refused to leave the woman’s room when requested by a colleague and continued to be verbally abusive towards her.

The offences took place at Warren Park Care Home between November 2014 and January 2015 and Orr breached 11 parts of the social services code of practice for workers.

The report stated: “A warning is not appropriate as it would not adequately address the misconduct.

“The misconduct is extremely serious. A warning would offer no protection to service users or the public.

“Accordingly the council considers that a Removal Order is the most appropriate sanction being both necessary and justified in the public interest and to ensure the continuing trust and confidence in the social service profession, in the Council as regulator and in the integrity of the Register.”
