A STEVENSTON teenager has been selected to represent Great Britain at an international figure skating competition in Bulgaria.
Lucy Martin will compete against skaters from all over Europe at the Denkova-Staviski Cup in Sofia on Saturday, October 22.
The 14-year-old has been skating since she was six and represents the Magnum Figure Skating Club. She is also a member of Auchenharvie Ice Dance and Figure Skating Club and is coached by Natalie Cunningham-Dallas, a former British Medallist and Disney on Ice star.
Lucy’s parents Sharon and Paul said they are both proud of their daughter. They said: “Her dedication and drive in such a tough sport never cease to amaze us. Lucy works so hard to improve her jumps and takes many a knock, however she just gets back up and tries again.”
The Denkova-Staviski Cup will be the second time Lucy has competed in Europe. In November last year, she won a Bronze Medal at an international event in Romania.
The third year Kilwinning Academy pupil will travel to the event with her dad and fellow Magnum skater Ellie Holmes from East Ayrshire. Mum Sharon and twin sister Chloe hope to be able to watch Lucy skate on a live stream from the event.
