SALTCOATS residents have complained about the state of a rear garden in the town.

And now North Ayrshire Council are preparing to serve the landowners with an amenity notice.

The site, located at the back of a residential flat on Hamilton Street, was discussed at a recent meeting of North Ayrshire Council Planning Committee.

Concerns were raised over the garden’s collapsed gate, dilapidated garage and accumulation of refuse and waste.

Councillor Jim Montgomerie, who represents Saltcoats and Stevenston, told the Herald this week: “I have had complaints about this.

“One of the neighbours contacted me and I went down to see her and we both had a look at it.

“The lady’s complaints in the past about this eyesore fell on deaf ears, she told me.

“The owner has been lettered numerous times, but simply hasn’t bothered his or her shirt about this property.

“To be fair, I think it has been on the market now for some time, but that is no excuse.

“I contacted the council after my visit and asked them to take this action because there was no movement by the owner.

“If you don’t get a response, send another letter.

“If they are still ignoring you then you have to take action because at the end of the day my constituent has to live there and she was not happy and that is what I am here for.”

A North Ayrshire Council spokesperson said: “We intend to serve the Amenity Notice within the next week on those identified as having an interest in the land.

“Non-compliance with an Amenity Notice allows the council to consider entering the land, carrying out the requirements of the Notice and seeking any costs from those responsible.”
