A 34-YEAR-OLD woman who called police “f****** w*****s” and assaulted a man in Ardrossan while on bail has been jailed for six months.

Danielle Hughes, who is already currently serving a jail term, appeared at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court where she admitted to behaving in a threatening and abusive manner at Ardrossan Short Stay Hostel.

She also admitted to being in possession of cannabis at Saltcoats Police Station.

The court heard that at around 6.15pm on October 20, police were called to a disturbance from the reception at the hostel on Princes Street, where Hughes resided.

When officers arrived, they found Hughes to be heavily under the influence of alcohol and repeatedly shouting and swearing. She shouted “f****** w*****s” at the police, then began spitting at the walls and doors.

She then staggered towards one of the officers, pointing her finger at his face, and shouted: “You’re a f****** p****.”

Hughes was arrested and taken to Saltcoats Police Station. During a search at the station, a quantity of cannabis was found within her bra.

The court also heard that in the early hours of October 16, Hughes called police to report a disturbance in Glasgow Street, where she had been drinking with a man.

When police arrived, they found Hughes standing in the middle of the road heavily under the influence of alcohol and pointing aggressively at her drinking companion’s window shouting: “It’s him you should be lifting, he’s a f****** paedo.”

Police tried to calm Hughes down but she continued to shout and swear and was challenging the man to come out for a fight.

The court heard that Hughes was “very angry and frothing at the mouth” and kept repeatedly shouting “f****** paedo”.

The court also heard that CCTV footage taken before police arrived showed two people fighting in the street and Hughes slapping and punching the man on the face.

Defending Hughes, Fraser Alexander said: “She admits herself that she has been drinking far too much and she puts that down to a deterioration in her mental health.

“At HM Cornton Vale she is seeing a psychiatrist who has increased her medication significantly and as a result of that she now feels much better.”
Sheriff David Hall told Hughes that he would consider “the nature of these charges, your record, and the fact that you were only out a few months.”

But he added: “However, I’ll take into account your plea of guilty to both charges.”

Hughes was sentenced to three months imprisonment, reduced from four, for the disturbance on October 20 and admonished for possession of cannabis.

She was also given two months for each of the two charges from October 16 to run concurrently.
