THE number of housebreakings detected by police in North Ayrshire decreased by more than 10 per cent between April 1 and September 30 this year.

There were 48 crimes related to housebreaking in the Three Towns from April 1 until October 17 – 14 less than the previous year. Of those, 15 were within dwelling houses.

There were 24 crimes related to housebreaking in Kilwinning for the same period – two more than the previous year – seven within dwelling houses.

The Garnock Valley also saw a decrease in number of housebreaking incidents detected. A total of 30 crimes took place, compared with 53 from the previous year.

Arran only had one incident detected, two less than the 2015 figures.
A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “There were a large number of historical detections carried into last year’s figures.

“Our current detection rate sits ahead of the five-year average of 18.9 per cent. It is also very positive that the number of housebreakings has continued to reduce.”
