MEMBERS of Garnock Community Social Club were celebrating during their beer festival at the weekend after being presented with a prestigious award.

The club was awarded the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) Club of the Year for Scotland and Northern Ireland 2016 at the two-day festival.

Having been closed for a number of years, the club reopened two years ago under new management and with a new committee.

Its introduction of real ale has been a huge success and the club, which is open seven days a week, is once again a major hub within the community.

Iain Martin, from Garnock Community Social Club, said: “The club is just short of two-years-old since we reopened .

“We’ve been selling real ale and that’s turned into a success, so it’s really good that this has happened.

“A lot of people I’ve spoken to over the years in the Beith, Dalry and Kilbirnie areas have always regarded it as a Kilbirnie club.

“But it’s for the whole of the Garnock Valley.

“We want to encourage people from across the Garnock Valley to come along and enjoy it as a social club.”
