A NEW initiative has been set up by a couple of Saltcoats parents to ensure that other people always have clothes that fit them.

Saltcoats Swap Shop was started after they decided whilst they did clothing swaps all the time it was not enough, there were other children in clothing to small, old and worn out or just inappropriate for the weather, so what was decided was to start a swap shop.

Already the organisers have a hefty load of clothes for both children and adults alike, the intention, however, was initially to not do adult clothing but donations have been coming in so why not?

Founder, Anna Hazel-McGown, said: “This is also about teaching everyone how things can be recycled properly with no rubbish being generated, we can teach our children how to make Saltcoats a better place.”

When and Where? December 20 at the Argyle Community Centre, Saltcoats.

What can you offer? Can you volunteer anything from picking up deliveries to a few hours at our events, maybe a bit of washing and drying. Any time you offer helps other people. If you would like to join their committee, please ask.

What they will accept: Clothes* blankets, bedding, toys

What they would love to accept but can’t due to storage: Cots, Moses baskets, wardrobes (anything bulky).

What they just can’t accept: *Underwear, unless its new they will not accept second-hand underwear. Car Seats, bicycle helmets due to the legal problems arising. At this time, they cannot accept money, if you feel you must do something along those lines, buy some children’s underwear and donate that: socks, pants, vests are all required.
