ST Matthew’s Academy has been recognised with a prestigious national award for innovation and achievement in promoting physical education and sport - to pupils and the wider community.
The sportscotland Gold School Sport Award was presented to staff and pupils at the school by Barry Fleeting, Partnership Manager of sportscotland.
The School Sport Award is a national initiative that is designed to encourage schools to continuously improve physical education and sport.
The Award also encourages sporting links between schools and the communities around them.
Councillor Louise McPhater, Cabinet Member for Communities, said: “This is fantastic recognition for the school and everyone involved deserves huge credit.”
Stephen Colligan, Head Teacher, of Saint Matthew’s Academy added: “This award recognises the outstanding work of our staff, pupils and partners to ensure all young people in St Matthew’s Academy have the opportunity to participate and succeed in physical activity.
“The efforts of our young Sports Leaders, our committed staff and our Active Schools co-ordinator cannot be understated.”
Stewart Harris, Chief Executive of sportscotland said: “I would like to congratulate all of the staff and pupils.
“They should all be extremely proud of this fantastic achievement.”
To achieve a Gold sportscotland School Sport Award, schools have to undergo an extensive external assessment carried out by an independent panel of experts.
