SALTCOATS was at a standstill on Friday afternoon after a man was killed by a freight train.
The man, named locally as Murray Allan from Largs, tragically fell in front of the train and died as a result of the accident.
Shortly after 4.30pm, emergency services were called to Saltcoats Railway Station after reports that a person had been struck by a train.
British Transport Police Officers worked alongside colleagues from the Scottish Ambulance Service but sadly the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
A spokesperson for the British Transport Police said: “BTP was called to Saltcoats central railway station at 4.36pm on Friday, December 16, to reports that a person had been struck by a train.
“Officers attended along with the Scottish Ambulance Service but sadly a man was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been informed.”
