THE final touches are being made at Garnock Community Campus as the school prepares to open for the first time in the New Year.

The formal handover of the state-of-the-art campus - from Kier Construction and Hub SW to North Ayrshire Council - was held on Thursday, December 22.

The stunning facility, at Beith Road, will accommodate pupils from Garnock Academy, Glengarnock Primary School and Glengarnock Early Years class who are eagerly looking forward to the move.

Ahead of the school’s opening - on Tuesday, January 10 - Garnock Community Campus head teacher Alan Dick said: “We are all extremely excited that the opening is now just days away and our young people, and communities, will get to use this amazing new facility.

“We have all worked incredibly hard to get to this stage. I must pay tribute to all the staff for their hard work and dedication - this has been a real team effort.

“Those efforts have been rewarded with a new school that will be fantastic to teach in and just as fantastic to learn in.”

The new £40 million school, community and leisure campus will serve the Garnock Valley’s three main towns - Kilbirnie, Beith and Dalry.

As well as providing state-of-the-art educational facilities for pupils, the campus will include a high quality six-lane swimming pool leisure facility, operated by KA Leisure, to replace Garnock Pool.

There will also be a synthetic pitch suitable for rugby and football. And the campus also features a number of sports halls.

North Ayrshire’s Cabinet Member for Education John Bell said: “While there has been much debate about the campus location and concerns over transport, I am delighted that the young people of the Garnock Valley will benefit from this significant investment in education by the council.

“It has been quite a journey
to reach this stage since our 2009 bid for funding for the school.

“I’m sure the pupils will love the fantastic new facilities when they arrive for their first lessons shortly after the New Year.”
