THREE traffic lights in Stevenston don't change from green at any time during the day - but the council won't be getting rid of them.
The lights, which have been in place since 2006, are situated on the approach to the roundabout which separates the the roads to Stevenston town centre and Saltcoats High Road.
Permanently green, pedestrians are unable to change the lights and cross the road there because of a lack of crossing facilities.
North Ayrshire say that there were put in place when the bus lanes were introduced and to curb the flow of heavy traffic.
A North Ayrshire Council spokesperson said: “These traffic signals were installed in 2006 as part of the works to install the bus lanes on Kilwinning Road, Stevenston.
“Their original purpose was to stop traffic on Kilwinning Road, in order to prevent potential tailbacks on Townhead Street by vehicles unable to exit via Hayocks Roundabout.
“As the traffic currently flows freely on these roads, we do not anticipate the need to activate the signals at this time.
“However, we are retaining the traffic lights should traffic flow and volumes change in future. The lights are switched on to ensure that dampness does not adversely affect the controller.”
