AYRSHIRE’S top police officer has left her post after three years in the job.

Divisional Commander, Chief Superintendent Gillian MacDonald said goodbye to colleagues in the Ayrshire Police Division last week.

She will now take on a new role and complete the challenging UK Strategic Command Course.

Her replacement is a former Ayrshire recruit, Paul Main, who is the new Local Policing Commander for Ayrshire.

Chief Superintendent Main is delighted to return to Ayrshire where he started his career.

Chief Superintendent MacDonald said: “It has been a privilege and a pleasure to have been Divisional Commander of Ayrshire Division over the last three years.

“I am hugely proud of the team of men and women who work tirelessly 24/7 to keep the people of Ayrshire safe and of the reductions in violent crime, particularly, that have been achieved over the last few years.”

“I am confident that my successor will seek to build on the good work that already takes place across Ayrshire.”

A police spokesman said: “Ayrshire Division thanks Chief Superintendent MacDonald and wishes her all the best.”
