A KILBIRNIE schoolboy, who faces a lifetime of treatment after being diagnosed with a cyst on his brain, was cheered up by the kindness of a local charity worker.

Nine-year-old Devlin Seel has a large arachnoid cyst at the front of his head and spent most of 2016 in and out of hospital.

The St Bridget's Primary pupil had to have a peritoneal shunt fitted into his abdomen to drain the cyst on a lifelong basis and is now looking at operations throughout his life.

But when Kilbirnie charity worker James Smith heard about Devlin’s illness, he wanted to help make the little boy smile again.

James, who is CEO of Hillhead Pets Corner and Outdoor Learning Centre, told the Herald: “I asked Devlin’s mum Sharon what would cheer him up.

“She said that he’s really into wrestling in a big way so I arranged for two wrestlers to come and meet him.

“It made his day because he only just got out of hospital before Christmas.”

James contacted his wrestler friend, ‘100 per cent Pure Beef’ Bobby Roberts from Respect Wrestling in Ayrshire, and arranged a surprise visit from him and the Glasgow wrestler, The Lone Striker.

The pair came to Hillhead Pets Corner, where they showed Devlin the Respect Wrestling Heavyweight Championship Belt and the Reckless Intent UK Championship Belt.

James said: “Devlin was so happy to meet them and hold their winning belts and he had a huge smile on his face.

“Devlin went home with a smile, t-shirt, card and signed poster. He was one happy boy.”
