A NEW million pound unit at University Hospital Crosshouse is helping to improve patients’ experience when they attend for a surgical procedure.
A new ‘surgical same day admission’ unit has opened its door and means patients who require a planned inpatient surgical procedure can now attend hospital on the day of their operation directly through this unit.
Previously, patients would go into the ward first, often the day before their procedure spending a night there, unnecessarily in most cases. After surgery, they recover on the appropriate hospital ward.
The new unit has six consulting rooms, separate male and female waiting areas and general support areas. It has been built next to the theatre/day surgery area and provides a calm, professional modern environment.
Crosshouse Hospital Volunteers provided the funding for the new £1million unit which was opened by Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, Mr Gavin Tait.
