REPRESENTATIVES of the Kilbirnie community, partner agencies and councillors joined the town’s Locality Policing Team to go ‘walkabout’ in the Dennyholm Wynd area of the town last week.
The walkabout is a method of bringing everyone with an interest in a particular area together to identify solutions to local concerns.
PC Gillies, of the Garnock Valley Locality Policing Team, hosted the event on Thursday, February 2 and commented there have been a number of anti-social behaviour incidents reported to police in the area recently. Walkabouts are a tried and tested method of bringing people together to look at what is strong in a community and to address local issues.
During the event concerns were raised regarding poor and broken lighting in the area, youths setting fires and general antisocial behaviour. A number of actions were identified and will be implemented in the forthcoming period including additional patrols and youth engagement activities.
PC Gillies added: “Police and partners have been working in the area to tackle issues of concern identified by the community. The walkabout provided a great opportunity to look at specific areas in the town - I would encourage anyone with concerns in their community to get involved - to contact their Local Policing Team or the relevant agency. Together we can make our communities safer and stronger.”
