The body of a 55-year-old man was discovered on Stevenston beach on Sunday.
Chief Inspector Brian Shaw told the Herald on Monday: "His family are aware and a post mortem to establish the circumstances will be carried out.
"At this stage there is nothing to suggest it is suspicious."
