Success came for Kilwinning Whippet Racing Club early this year in the form of “Cheeky Charlie” - trained by a boy aged nine.
‘Cheeky Charlie’, who has the pet name Max, travelled down south to Doncaster a few weeks ago with owner/trainer, nine-year-old Mason Salmon and bagged his first trophy for the club.
The annual event, RCH-NCH Scooby Don’t/RCH Sunbird put on by the NNWRF, was the first bend open of the season held at Askern greyhound stadium which saw a large entry of dogs from across the UK, compete over the 240 yard track. Max went out and won the title of Supreme Yearling, a title won previously by some top dogs.
“Cheeky Charlie” is trained by Mason, who is a pupil at Blacklands Primary in the town, and raced at Kilwinning Whippet Racing Club, Dirrans Park, every Sunday from 11am. Check out their Facebook group for more information on how to join.
