SPARKY the Eco-Squirrel is ready to spread North Ayrshire Council’s green message across the region.

The mascot was designed by talented Logan Davidson – a P6 pupil from Dykesmains Primary – as part of a North Ayrshire-wide school competition.

Logan’s design was chosen as the best of the bunch and will be used to spearhead the council’s marketing material.

And he was given his first outing in West Kilbride as the council marked a major milestone in their LUNAR – Lighting Up North Ayrshire Responsibly – project, the installation of the 10,000th LED street light.

Councillor Jim Montgomerie, Cabinet Member for Place, said: “The competition was a fantastic idea to engage with our young people.

“The quality of entries was just fantastic and well done to everyone who took part. Squirrels know how to store food and make the best of their resources so well done to Logan for his idea.

“We will be seeing much more of Sparky over the coming months.”

The winning school received £500 for their eco-committee to spend on an environmentally friendly project of their choice.

Amara Love of Dykesmains Primary and Shanice Malcolmson of St John Olgivie were runners-up.

Each of their school’s eco-committees will receive £200 for a project of their choice.
