FOUR new benches have been designed and installed in the local area - in a salute to the brave souls who gave their lives in World War One.
The brainchild of Legion President, Alistair Kennedy, the benches are situated in Ardrossan, Saltcoats, Stevenston and West Kilbride.
They have been described as ‘bide-a-while’ benches, where people can sit down, and think of those who gave their tomorrow so we could have our today.
President Alastair Kennedy, Chairman Jim Anderson, Councillor Jim Montgomerie, Jim MacMurran, Paul Swainson, and Hamish the dog met up at the Saltcoats bench on on Friday, March 17, opposite Saltcoats War Memorial .
They met up with Aaran Catterick, a director of David Ogilvie Engineering, who made the benches, and Aaron’s wife Katrina, who is the marketing manageress of the firm.
They were there to receive a branch plaque in gratitude for the benches, which were purchased between the branch and North Ayrshire Council with help of Cllr Montgomerie.
