THE SAS (Three Towns) Explorer Scout Unit recently attended the National Scout Outdoor and Activity Centre at Lochgoilhead for a weekend of water activities.

Five Explorer Scouts completed Level 2 of the Sailing Awards despite the shortage of wind.

Four of the unit’s leaders – James Galloway, Ryan Conlan, John Conlan and Marcus Conlan – completed their powerboat permit course over the weekend as well.

The unit will return in October for another weekend with outdoor activities, where five leaders will complete their kayak permit course thanks to the generosity of the Lottery.

The group will next take part in the North Ayrshire and Arran District Camp. This is being held at the Lapwing Scout Camp Site

on Paisley’s Gleniffer Braes on the weekend of June 16-18.

The unit also plans to join up with Saltcoats Scouts to camp at the Ayrshire Scout Camp Site at Culzean Castle in August.

In July next year, the unit will be partnering up with Scouts from Saltcoats and Denny to return to the World International Scout Centre at Kandersteg in Switzerland.
