ARDROSSAN and Arran's MP and MSP have both welcomed the news that the Arran Ferry will continue to sail from the North Ayrshire town after the predatory bid from Troon.

Both Patricia Gibson MP and Kenneth Gibson MSP have been vocal campaigners and supporters of the retention of Ardrossan and expressed their delight and relief when the decision was announced on Wednesday.

Patricia said: “I am delighted by this announcement. It is a victory for common sense and the campaign to save this route was one in which I was privileged to be involved.

“The Scottish Government has recognised that this is indeed, the cheapest, shortest and fastest route and this decision will have a positive economic impact on both Ardrossan and Arran.

“I look forward to the significant investment to follow to upgrade Ardrossan harbour to the benefit of all those who use and rely upon this ferry.”

Kenneth added: "Having lobbied hard for the retention of Ardrossan, I am delighted that after all the evidence and representations were considered, SNP Ministers made the sensible choice of retaining Ardrossan as the Ayrshire mainland port for the Arran ferry service is the best option.

“Peel Ports and NAC will now work to deliver the £15 million of improvements before the new £48.5 million state of the art ferry now being built at Port Glasgow joins the Ardrossan to Brodick route next summer.”
