THE Three towns top blind bowlers recently represented Scotland at an international competition - and came back with medals despite coming up against adversity.
The Scottish Blind Bowling team flew out to Cape Town, South Africa, on March 14 to take part in the International Blind Bowling World Championships. Part of that team, David Thomas, Team Manager George Miller, Coach and player Irene Edgar, Billy Edgar and Peter Ramsay are all members of Ardrossan Indoor Bowling Club and Saltcoats Outdoor Bowling club.
Facing extremely hot conditions (one day the games were halted due to temperatures of 39 degrees and 13 of 17 players took ill)Irene won a silver medal even though she had to concede one of her games due to illness. Billy won bronze in the Gents Singles, losing out on a silver medal through shot difference.
If the husband and wife pair had escaped illness, they were on course for a mixed pairs medal but had to concede two games.
Overall Scotland won a silver medal and two bronze medals with Fiona Scotland from Perth picking up the other bronze.
