A RUNAWAY car has sparked gas concerns after it collided with a house and a pipe in a West Kilbride street.
Police were called to the incident in Halfway Street at around 12.15pm today (Friday, April 21) and residents were evacuated from the affected property as a precaution.
A spokesman from Police Scotland said that officers, fire crews and workers from the gas network are currently on the scene.
He told the Herald: “A vehicle hit a gas pipe. It appears that the vehicle has rolled down the hill.
“There was a concern that there was a smell of gas and fire services attended. It's an ongoing incident at the moment.
“Fire services and police are at the scene making sure everything is done appropriately.
"At the moment there are no concerns that it is anything suspicious. Police are assisting the fire service and the area has been evacuated.
“We are liaising with development agencies to make sure the area's safe.”
