A MINOR road in North Ayrshire will no longer be connecting the Three Towns with the rest of the area.

Dubbs Road, which connects Stevenston to Kilwinning and beyond, will be closed off to motor vehicles half way along the road after proposals from the council were not by any objection locally.

The plans were to create a long-term and sustainable plan to the stretch of road, which will now be shut at around the half-way point once landowners and the council are agreed.

A North Ayrshire Council spokesperson said: “We engaged with residents living on Dubbs Road to come up with a sustainable, long-term and safe solution for this stretch of road.

“Following these discussions we agreed on proposals to restrict access for vehicles. Cyclists and pedestrians will still have full access to the road.

“The Statutory notification and objection period for these proposals ended on 17 March with no objections being received.

“We will need to construct turning areas, approximately halfway along the road, to allow any vehicles that use the road to turn back. We are speaking to landowners affected and once we have reached agreement with them we will progress with work and implement our plans.”
