A SALTCOATS school had its polytunnel seriously vandalised again for the second time in 18 months over the May Day Bank Holiday.
The tunnel, which is situated at the back of Mayfield Primary in the town, fell victim to vandals last year and this most recent incident has left the school's headteacher ‘deeply upset’.
Mairi Thomas, Head Teacher at Mayfield Primary School, said: “This is the second time we have suffered vandalism to our polytunnel.
"Both the staff and children are deeply upset at this latest
incident.
“It’s been particularly disheartening for the children who had planted their seeds before Easter, hoping to see them grow over the next few months, ready for summer.
“We immediately notified police who are now investigating the
matter.
“In the meantime, I have asked all of our parents to contact the police on the 101 non-emergency number if they see anyone in the school grounds outwith school hours
“I would also like to thank parents who have rallied round and offered help in the aftermath of the vandalism.
"Their support has been invaluable.”
Investigations are continuing.
