ARRAN's RNLI team showed yesterday (Wednesday) that they don't just save people at sea - after helping an injured walker on the island.
At 1.03pm the Arran RNLI Lifeboat crew were paged to the aid of an injured walker on the Arran Coastal Way.
Arran RNLI in-shore lifeboat Rachel Hedderwick launched at 1.09pm, swiftly located the casualty and performed an assessment of the casualty. Once assessed it was decided that the casualty would be evacuated on the Arran RNLI in-shore lifeboat to an awaiting ambulance.
After performing their initial assessment of the casualty, the lifeboat crew gained the assistance of three members of the Coastguard Rescue Team to assist carrying the casualty via stretcher to the lifeboat.
Once aboard the lifeboat the casualty was taken to landing point to meet a waiting ambulance. The casualty was then taken to the Arran War Memorial Hospital for further treatment.
Arran RNLI Helm Mark Johnstone said: “Callouts like today show why everyone in the RNLI train hard every week so they can be ready for occasions just like this one. It also shows the value of our close relationship with the Coastguard and Ambulance teams to make sure we have the best outcomes during any callout.”
