LABOUR took control of North Ayrshire Council after a vote at Cunninghame House this afternoon.
The minority administration, to be led by Councillor Joe Cullinane, will see the majority of the cabinet that was in place before the election back in their posts, with the only exception being Robert Foster replacing the now retired Peter McNamara as the portfolio holder for Health and Social Care.
Proposals for Leader and Depute of North Ayrshire Council came from both Labour and the SNP with the former winning a vote by 16-11 out of a possible 33 votes.
Previously both the SNP and Labour had said prior to the meeting that they would not be forming a coalition after Labour rejected the SNPs offer after the election.
Reaction to follow.
