A PUBLIC right of way leading to a popular local caravan park is now getting a much needed upgrade.

The pathway behind Caley Court in Stevenston, which leads to Sandylands and is popular with tourists, will be closed for up to a month as the improvements are made.

There are also plans to remove Japanese Knotweed from the area during the work.

That part of the work should be completed as we went to press.

Locals were left confused after the works started near to houses that look on to the path. But North Ayrshire Council have cleared up the confusion after being contacted by the Herald this week.

A council spokesperson said: “Contractors are working on our behalf to remove some Japanese Knotweed from the area ahead of the creation of a brand-new pathway.

“The current track will be transformed into a hard surfaced two-metre wide path, which will vastly improve the route for the local community.

“We expect the knotweed removal to be completed today with subsequent construction on the path continuing for up to four weeks.”
