Three primary schools and an individual from North Ayrshire have beaten off stiff competition from across Scotland to be selected as finalists at this year’s Scottish Education Awards.

St Winning’s Primary, pictured, has been shortlisted for the Making Languages Come Alive Award, St Mary’s Primary School is a finalist for the Employability across Learning (Primary) Award, and Corsehill Primary School is in the running for the Science, Technologies, Engineering and Maths (STEM) Award.

Additionally, Walter Smith, who acts as a business advisor to pupils from S3 – S6 at Greenwood Academy, has been shortlisted for the Educational Supporter of the Year Award.

All of the finalists will be invited to attend an awards ceremony at the Hilton Hotel in Glasgow on Wednesday, June 7, where judges will unveil the winners of each award category.

John Butcher, executive director for education and youth employment, said: “We are delighted that North Ayrshire’s schools are represented for the third successive year at the Scottish Education Awards.

“Previously, Greenwood Academy, Kilwinning Early Years Centre and St Winning’s Primary School have enjoyed success at the awards and this year three of our primary schools have been named as finalists – including St Winning’s once again – giving us further evidence that standards across the authority continue to improve. In addition, Walter Smith of Greenwood Academy has been shortlisted for the Educational Supporter of the Year award.

“Children should have no poverty of aspiration, ambition or opportunity and education is key to unlocking their potential. That is something we are striving for here in North Ayrshire and the Scottish Education Awards vividly demonstrate the hard work and success which takes place in classrooms up and down the country. Good luck to all the finalists.”

The Scottish Education Awards recognise and reward the people who dedicate their lives to children and young people and showcase the valuable work and innovation happening in classrooms across the country. There are also categories which recognise and reward the dedication of teachers.
