POLICE are continuing enquiries and appealing for witnesses after a 45-year-old man was seriously assaulted, possibly by being struck by a vehicle, Saltcoats on Saturday night (May 27).

At around 9.45pm, police were called to a report of a man injured behind premises between Countess Street and Nineyard Street.

Emergency services attended and the 45-year-old man was taken by ambulance to Crosshouse Hospital in Kilmarnock where he was treated for a head injury.

Detective Inspector William McDicken from Irvine Police Office said: “Police enquiries are continuing into this serious assault today and one line of enquiry is that the man may have been struck by a vehicle in Nineyard Street.

“Officers have been carrying out enquiries in the local area and are gathering CCTV footage to gather more information on whoever is responsible for this attack.

“At this time, I would urge any witnesses to the incident, or anyone who has any information that may assist our investigation to contact Saltcoats Police Office through 101, quoting reference number 5420 of 27 May.
