FAMILY and friends of Ainslie Mitchell, who are trying to raise £20,000 to get her life-saving treatment, were stunned when a mysterious man appeared at their recent fundraiser and donated £100.

The fashion show, on Sunday, June 11 at M&Co in Saltcoats, was in support of 18-year-old Ainslie who is battling incurable cancer.

As the Herald reported recently, the former Auchenharvie Academy pupil has a last chance of survival if she can raise £20,000 for vital treatment offered in Cuba.

Last weekend’s fundraiser initially raised £475 – but the event took an unexpected turn when a mysterious stranger arrived.

Emma Wales, a close friend of Ainslie’s who helped organise the fundraiser, told the Herald: “We raised about £475 but a wee man came in with£100 and we didn’t know who this wee man was, only that he was apparently an old man.

“He came in and asked for Ainslie but didn’t say who he was. He took her hand, handed her an envelope and said: ‘I really hope you get to where you want to go.’ Then he left.

“I never got a look at him so it’s not like I could recognise him. We were all really moved. We just want to say a big thanks from everybody.”

Emma added: “The day went really well.

“Ainslie modelled. She did really well and had a really good time. Everyone did really well and they all enjoyed it. We want to thank everyone who came along.”
