THESE are the two trophies the world’s top male and female golfers will be desperate to get their hands on this summer.

And prior to a ball being struck, young people are getting the chance to do just that!

The Aberdeen Asset Management Men’s and Ladies Scottish Open take place at Dundonald Links this July and North Ayrshire schoolkids will be able to see what the winners will hold aloft up close and personal.

It is the first time both events – which take place with two weeks of each other – are held at the same venue.

And to promote both tournaments and to inspire North Ayrshire’s young people, the European Tour and the Council’s Active Schools team have embarked on a three-week tour of local schools.

The trophy tour started in Arran last Tuesday and will take in 60 schools in total before finishing in Irvine on June 26.

As well as selfie opportunities, the Tour’s Robert Gordon will give a short presentation on the events, their history and what both have to offer.

North Ayrshire Council Chief Executive Elma Murray said: “This is a fantastic idea and we’re sure will generate great excitement amongst our young people.

“Having these two high-profile events provides us with an amazing opportunity and we are working hard to to create a legacy in North Ayrshire.

“This is a fantastic opportunity to grow the levels of participation in golf and encourage boys and girls to take up the game.

“We have amazing golf courses in North Ayrshire, including our public courses run by KA Leisure. We have created lots of fun opportunities for our young people to try golf out for themselves. With immense golfers such as Henrik Stenson, Adam Scott and Lydia Ko signed up to play at Dundonald Links in July, many of our young people have already been inspired to give this great game a go.”
