ROADWORKS on the A78 which were due to begin this week have now been rescheduled - in case they clash with the Scottish Open golf tournament.

Scotland TranServ, in consultation with Police Scotland and North Ayrshire Council, will now reschedule bridge resurfacing works for the A78 at Warrix near Irvine to an unconfirmed date.

The four-week long project to improve barriers, waterproofing and the drainage system on the Warrix interchange was due to start on Monday, June 12.

However, due to the proximity of the works to the Scottish Open Golf, a decision has now been made to reschedule the project. Works will now take place in the late summer/ early autumn to deliver these tangible road surface improvements for local commuters and freight traffic.

When works begin the southbound carriageway will be fully closed initially, a fast lane system introduced, with the northbound side also reduced to one lane.

Following that the project will switch to the Northbound carriageway, with signed local diversions in place throughout the work.

Previously the works had been scheduled to be completed ahead of the Scottish Open. Gordon Gibney, Scotland TranServ’s Operations Delivery Manager said: “We’ve been working closely with the Local Authority and Police Scotland to specifically schedule these works ahead of the Scottish Open at Dundonald Links.

“This project will deliver tangible, long-term benefits to commuters, businesses and tourists using the A78 for years to come.”
