LAST week two Stevenston schoolgirls took the chop and donated over 90 inches of hair to a worth charity.

On Wednesday, June 14, third year girls Megan and Sophie Thomson from Auchenharvie Academy cut off a combined total of 90 inches (7’6”) of their hair for charity.

Their hair, along with the money raised, will be donated to The Little Princess Trust.

The whole school watched the girls get ‘the chop’ accompanied by Benjamin Sonnet (S4) with a drumroll.

The school took part in a ‘Dress Down Day’ which managed to raise just over £300 and also took part in a ‘50/50’ raffle (in which 50 per cent of proceeds went to charity and 50 per cent went to one winner).

Pupils and staff sponsored the girls, raising around £400. The girl’s ‘Just Giving’ page is sitting at around £250 and finally, Mrs Thomson (Megan and Sophie’s Mum) and her colleagues, raised around £160!

Overall, Megan and Sophie have managed to raise approximately £1,100!

A huge thank you very much from the school goes to the hairdressers who gave up their time to cut and style the girl’s hair.

They also want to say thank you to ‘the choppers’; Mrs Hands, Mrs Hopton, Mrs Riddel, Mrs Jones, Paige Simson and Brooke Armstrong.

And of course, thank you to all pupils and staff who made the event such a success and memorable day for Megan and Sophie.
