PRIMARY pupils from schools across North Ayrshire took part in a celebration of golf event last week.

And providing them with inspiration were the Aberdeen Asset Management Men’s and Ladies Scottish Open trophies.

The European Tour kindly brought both along as part of the trophy tour which is currently taking place across schools in the region.

The event was the climax of the interactive golf programme – in association with local golf manufacturer Golphin – which has been taking place at local schools.

Pupils from St Winning’s, St Peter’s and Stanley Primary all attended the event at Auchenharvie Golf Driving Range.

They took part in putting, chipping, pitching and fullswing challenges which were put together by the team at Golphin.

Councillor Louise McPhater, Cabinet Member for Communities, said: “The golf programme at our schools have proved really popular and it’s great that the pupils got a chance to see the trophies at their celebration event.

“We are incredibly excited that both the Men’s and Ladies Scottish Opens will be held at Dundonald Links. It’s a real opportunity for us to grow the game in North Ayrshire and to inspire more and more of our young people to take up the game.”

KA Leisure also supported the event, while sponsor Arnold Clark provided a free club and golf balls to the participants. The Aberdeen Asset Management Men’s Scottish Open takes place from 13-16 July (www.aamscottishopen. com) and Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open 27-30 July (www. ladiesscottishopen.com).
