TWO Garnock Valley teens recently took the trip down to the capital to take part in the Horse Guards Parade.

Jamie Thomson, 14 and Callum MacMillan, 16 both attend Garnock Community Campus and both are from from Kilbirnie.

There were six cadets and one adult from West Lowland Pipe and Drums on the trip to London as part of a group of 41 cadets in total with 14 adults.

The Household Division Beating Retreat showcased the very best of British military music, ceremonial and pageantry in the heart of London on June 14 and 15. This year’s Beating Retreat - ‘Summon the Heroes’- was a patriotic celebration of British Army endeavour, found in individual courage in the face of adversity, exploration and discovery, and in sporting excellence.

Stirring music, precision drill, horsemanship, cannon fire, lights and fireworks combined in an unforgettable evening of music and display, showcasing the display of military heroes.

HRH Prince Harry took the royal salute on the day.

A special thanks to all adult volunteers who made this happen especially Pipe Major Sandie Greenwood of Westlowland and also to Russell Esler who is Jamie’s drumming instructor and George Sharp, Callum’s piping instructor for helping the boys get to this point.

Both attend Garnock Valley Detachment in Beith.
