TWO community projects in Ardrossan are celebrating a boost of £159,387 from the National Lottery’s Our Place programme.

Capall Dorcha Theatre Company, which was awarded £149,387, plan to use their grant to deliver youth theatre classes and Easter and summer workshops for young people and adults in Ardrossan.

Ardrossan Winton Community Sports Club were awarded £10,000. They plan to use the cash to prepare a plan for the further development of Winton Park, where Ardrossan Winton Rovers Football Club is based.

Barry Robertson, Founder and Executive Creative Producer of Capall Dorcha, said: “We are so grateful and overwhelmed by the support of the Big Lottery Fund for Capall Dorcha Ensemble. For the first time, a theatre arts organisation based in Ardrossan has been awarded funding, and this will allow us to start our community outreach classes. For many involved in our classes, this will be their first time taking part in theatre.”

Bobby Macnamara, Director of Ardrossan Winton Community Sports Club, added: “This award will enable us to carry out a feasibility study of the community of Ardrossan to provide suggestions for a blueprint for the development of Winton Park. This will expand our close links with the numerous local groups who we work closely with to meet their requirements for greater accessibility to sporting and leisure facilities, a fundraising events venue and group meeting space. This will enhance the wellbeing of the residents of the area and provide healthy options for one of Scotland’s highest areas of social deprivation and unemployment.”
