TWO local fighters showed their style at a recent MMA event in Alloa with wins in the cage.

Graham Postlethwaite, 29 from Kilwinning and Ian McCart, 24 from Saltcoats, who are both part of the Ayrshire Fight Academy, were at Alloa Town Hall on Saturday, July 1 as MXP: Ignite, held a show full of mixed martial arts, K1 and boxing fight.

Both fighters had trained 10 weeks for this event working fitness, techniques and the game plans that would lead both to victory.

First up of the two local fighters was Graham, after taking control of the striking exchanges on the feet his opponent looked to rush Graham to the cage to which Graham landed a big takedown after turning his opponent to the cage. Once on the ground Graham controlled his opponent then passed to a full mount where his opponent struggled, Graham saw the opportunity and went for a submission hold forcing his opponent to tap out with 11 seconds left in the round. Graham won via Armbar in first round improving his amateur record to 4 wins and 1 defeat

Next up was his team mate Ian who was making his debut in the cage. The fight started out with Ian landing some big punches to his opponent which focused his opponent to attempt to take Ian down to the ground, Ian showed that the work he and his team put in at the gym to counter his opponents attempts was working as Ian’s opponent struggled to get the takedown. The round ended with Ian freeing from his opponents grip to then land more big punches and the round came to a close.

After advice from his team, Ian entered the second round of the fight ready to go, Ian quickly took to the centre of the cage and landed big punches once again and on the call from his coach to land his favourite body shot Ian lands the punch perfectly to hurt his opponent and finish him just 29 seconds into the second round. Ian’s winner via TKO improving to 1 win and 0 defeats as an amateur.

Ayrshire Fight Academy coach Iain Postlethwaite said about the event: “Both fighters followed the game plan to perfection, after watching both Graham and Ian’s opponents I was able to train the boys to look for techniques that would work for them in the fights. Both fighters put in the hard work and now they have reaped the rewards from that, I am proud of both fighters and how professional they were in and outside of the cage.”
