AN AWARD in honour of a Saltcoats man was presented for its 25th year recently.
Herr Michael Smitt, a German student studying mechanical engineering, was presented with the John Greenlees Findlay Memorial Award for Initiative and Endeavour at Cranfield University in Buckinghamshire by John’s son Eric.
John Findlay was born in Saltcoats in 1910. and ran an agricultural engineering business in Ardrossan, initially in Montgomery Street and then in in Paisley Street and studied at Ardrossan Academy. Sadly, he was killed in a motoring accident in Dumfries in 1969.
He was highly regarded for his professionalism, endeavour and integrity. His personal approach won him many contracts and he was determined to ensure his customers received a high quality service at an acceptable price.
He is fondly remembered which prompted Eric to establish the award. The award recognises my Mr Findlay’s professional ability.
The award was presented by Mr Findlay’s son, Eric whilst the ceremony was hosted by Professor Jane Rolleston.
