DALRY and District SWI held a lunch at Dalgarven House Hotel, Kilwinning to mark the 100th anniversary of the Scottish Women’s Rural Institute, or the Scottish Women’s Institute as it is now known.

The organisation began in 1917 in Longniddry, near Edinburgh, and has long been associated with traditional skills such as baking, cooking, needlecraft and knitting.

Not so well known are skills like calligraphy, card making, and public speaking, and indeed the annual Ruralympics!

Now evolving with the times, new crafts such as needle felting and chain mail jewellery are being introduced.

Above all, women meet together to share friendship and fun.

As well as the Dalgarven lunch date, a further celebration was held by Ayrshire Federation in the form of an afternoon tea at Dumfries House, which was thoroughly enjoyed by all who attended.
