LEGENDARY double act the Krankies were in Saltcoats recently as part of the pair’s 70th birthday tour.

The comedy veterans – whose real names are Ian and Janette Tough – both turned 70 this year.

To commemorate the milestone, the husband and wife duo returned to Scotland for a special homecoming tour.

As part of the birthday tour, the Scottish Sun recently ran a competition offering charities and organisations across the country the chance to meet everyone’s favourite panto pair.

Caledonia Care Home was nominated by the family of one of the residents, 95-year-old May Dunlop.

The home was picked as a winner and lucky residents were treated to a visit from Ian and ‘Wee Jimmy’ on Thursday, July 13.

Janice McAdam, staff member at Caledonia Care Home, said: “The residents that met them were over the moon and had a great time.

“They were really nice for the short time they were there. Janette was great, she took the time to speak to everybody.”

The Herald was also lucky enough to speak to the legendary Krankies.

Ian said: “I haven’t been in Saltcoats since I was a wee boy. I used to go on Sunday school trips. I forgot how nice it was.”

Janette added: “One lady at the home who I was pictured with was 105. She doesn’t look it, does she? They all look as if they were well looked after. The staff were all lovely as well.”

On turning 70, Janette said: “You hope to reach the next milestone – make it to 80 – but you don’t know what’s round the corner.”
