GOLF tourism in Ayrshire has received a major boost following the successful staging of two high profile tournaments.

Dundonald Links made history after hosting the Scottish Open followed by the Ladies Scottish Open which concluded on Sunday with South Korea’s Lee Mi-Hyang winning the tournament after a dramatic final round. Over 60,000 fans flocked to the Ayrshire coastline for both events which provided local businesses a financial boost and the events could have longer-lasting benefits through exposure to an international TV audience with more than 130 channels screening the prestigious tournaments.

Beatson Cancer Charity were the official charity and raised £10,000 with sponsors of the tournament, Aberdeen Asset Management, donating money for every birdie and eagle scored over the week as well as donations from spectators.

Along with the world class golf that was on offer fans were able to enjoy a raft of entertainment and activities at both events.

That included the fans’ village as well as the Give Golf a Go initiative, attended by children of all ages.
